Asus ROG gaming smartphone rumored to launch on June 5

Asus ROG (Republic of Gamers) is known for its high-end range of gaming laptops. Now rumors have surfaced that Asus is working on a ROG gaming smartphone, which the company is planning to launch at its ROG event in Taiwan exhibition Computex on June 5. If launched, the smartphone will be competing with the likes of Razor Phone, Xiaomi’s Black Shark and ZTE Nubia Red Magic, which are dubbed to be gaming smartphones.

In anticipation to the event, the company also released a teaser image, which experts believe hints more towards a gaming smartphone. The tagline on the teaser image reads, “For those who dare” and “Unleash your creative power”. However, there has been no other information given besides that.
Asus ROG gaming smartphone features and specifications

We’re not sure about the design or the name of the device, but there have been some speculations about the hardware inside. Being a high-end smartphone, the phone is expected to feature the Snapdragon 845 octa-core SoC, which also comes with the Adreno 630 GPU. The phone is likely to carry 8GB of RAM with an internal storage of either 64GB or 128GB. There is no information on the screen size or resolution, but it is expected to boast a 120Hz refresh rate, much like the one on the Razer Phone. There is no word on battery capacity either, but the phone is said to run on Android 8.1 Oreo OS out-of-box.

That said, the Asus ROG gaming smartphone is still just a rumor. However, it won’t be hard to believe if the company does take that step. The gaming smartphone trend is slowly picking up pace. We’ve already seen gaming smartphones from Razer, Xiaomi and ZTE hit the market. Having a range of good gaming laptops, makes Asus a strong contender to join that bandwagon.
